Y’all I can’t believe I’m doing this. Feeling super crazy for signing myself up to transform our master bedroom in 6 weeks with the One Room Challenge. What. In. The. World. I also can’t believe I am actually going to publish photos of the state of this room right now because, well, it’s NOT pretty. Yes, there are pretty aspects to this room like the headboard, rug, blinds, nightstands, and our lamps….but the wholeness of this room is non-existent. It’s not cohesive or tied together and truthfully, it’s been neglected since we moved in because I knew the only people going in and out of it are me and Spyros. But, now it’s time for Spyros and me to feel like our room is a cozy little safe haven instead of a blank wall-ed, weird TV stand, non put together master bedroom.
Elise is a One Room Challenge pro, so, I am just hoping I can follow her footsteps. Per usual, she sets the bar very, very high for this little sis. See her previous one room challenges: Elise’s Master Bedroom | Sterling’s Nursery | Bathroom Renovation |Guest BedroomRenovation
Let me start out with a little bit of my vision. If you’ve seen bits of my home tour before (my living room | my dining room | my open floor plan kitchen/den | in-law suite), then you won’t be surprised when I tell you I plan to keep our master bedroom flowing with my overall “rustic chic” vibe. I also am not a big fan of color, so it will be very, very, very neutral.
I’ll let this little inspiration board speak for itself. The theme of this one room challenge is inter-mingling what I have with some new aspects. It will be a much needed revamp that’s for sure!
The above is just a small glimpse into the inspiration because there are plenty of other walls in this room that need some TLC. My main needs are: artwork for the walls, a new chest for our TV and for more storage, lighten up our bedding, add an accent wall behind our headboard, and to freshen up the space so it’s cohesive in and of itself as well as with the rest of the house! Without further ado I’ll let the real photos of our real, raw, rusty (not rustic…yet) master bedroom speak for itself.
What you see when you walk in:
You see our beautiful headboard flanked by two mirrored chests (one with the knobs off because I haven’t taken the time to glue them back on) with all of the wires from the monitor, phone chargers, and the box from our diffuser stuffed underneath…#reallife. The walls are blank. And I’m so over it!!
You also see the one and only window in this room with way too long curtains that I just haven’t cared to fix because I don’t love them and you see our lovely cable/wifi boxes too! The antique wardrobe was passed down to me from my mom who received it from my Mimi and it’s a vital and functional piece as it holds many of Spyros’ suits, ties, belts, and sweaters. Unfortunately, our closets are NOT walk-in, so we lucked out in inheriting this piece of furniture! We do have a custom bamboo blackout shade because that trumped just about everything else in this room when we moved in.
What you see when inside:
We have a floating full length mirror that I love which thankfully takes up great wall space between the bathroom and door to enter the room… and then we have:
I have NO WORDS for this part of our room. I literally shudder. I couldn’t bring myself to move the pile of laundry because I am just keeping this as real as possible. Y’all. WHAT IN THE ACTUAL WORLD IS THAT PIECE OF FURNITURE THE TV IS SITTING ON??!?! I can’t. So out of place. Woof. I’m thinking a mirrored chest to compliment the bedside tables will look best here and will give me some more storage so I can store my jewelry all in once place instead of scattered throughout our bathroom and the other downstairs bedrooms :). Also…the walls. I want to add some classic, clean, crisp frames to add some oomph to this boring wall. I also want/need to hide the TV cords :).
Last but not least, I hope to revamp our bedding slightly. I do love my duvet and euro shams but I am over the darker comforter. I want to brighten up this room and add some airiness. I’ll more than likely play around with the pillows too because why not?
And there you have it…our wannabe put together but oh so not master bedroom. I cannot wait to see the progress over these next 6 weeks and really hope I can pull it off!! I’m nervous. Super nervous. Would love any and all feedback on your vision for this room as well!
Be sure to check out the other hundreds of ORCs that are happening all over the US!
To my fellow guest participants…cheers to another 6 weeks of crazy! I can’t wait to stalk your DIYS and feed off of your inspiration. Woop woop…let’s do this!
