Ready for some vulnerability? Post partum for me this time feels completely different in lots of icky ways. I bounced back in no time after Nancy. Granted, I know I’m only 6 weeks post partum and have much time to get back into the swing of things, but I have a lot farther to go than I did with Nancy. For the first time ever I’m feeling completely uncomfortable with my body and I very much feel like “Whose body is this?!” I’ve cried about it (multiple times) and am definitely full force back out there in the workout-daily-and-eat-super-healthy world because you can’t feel sorry for yourself and not do anything about it, right? 😉 But this is not a pity party. I just want to be open + honest about how things are going emotionally for me right now as a new mama of two because I know I’m not the only one going through it! Hope and I are committed to making sure this is a space not just for butterflies and roses but for vulnerability and tough stuff too.
Here’s another layer of my current struggle: to be completely honest I’ve never really struggled with confidence/being comfortable in my own skin before now. I mean…I even thought I was looking good when I was NOT walking with the Lord and going out and drinking almost every night of college…and all the extra lbs that came with it! HA! But seriously. That happened. All that to say confidence has never been a struggle for me, and now I’m 30 and struggling big time feeling comfortable in this post partum skin I’m in. So that’s where I am. Bless my sweet husband for showering me with a lot more grace and words of encouragement than I’m hearing from within. (I love you sooo much, my Marky!)
So now that I’ve spilled the beans on my current body confidence level (EEEK!), I am going to share a few items + trends that genuinely help me feel prettier when I’m on my way back to becoming my best self both emotionally & physically. (Those dang hormones though…sheesh!) These will all be post partum AND nursing friendly!
MY FAVORITE POST PARTUM PICKS…
1. ANYTHING OFF THE SHOULDER (my #1 fave)
This is my favorite trend because I feel like it’s generally flowy, flattering (as in hides my current arms while I fight to get my tone back…), AND it’s nursing friendly. Win win WIN.
2. FLOWY TEES/TANKS
Flowy for that post partum pouch. And tees/tanks over dresses much of the time because as much as I usually LOVE a good summer dress, many are just not nursing friendly (unless they’re off the shoulder!).
This tee is amazing and on sale for $23. I bought it in 2 colors. It comes in EIGHT COLORS!
3. DRAWSTRING/ELASTIC SHORTS
Shorts ha! Not happening unless they’re in this category. Also not my favorite thing to wear in general because I love dresses, BUT it just makes so much more sense in these early days of lifting up your shirt to nurse every 3 hours.
4. ANY OTHER DRESSES THAT ARE NURSING FRIENDLY
These are harder to come by…I think adjustable straps so you can wiggle your arm out, straps that tie, or a v neck are some of the only options that make this category nursing friendly too!
I’ve had my eye on this lovely dress for a month now but have yet to pull the trigger. I LOVE my love stitch dress because of its super lightweight feel, flow, and pockets! And last but not least this is a fave too because of the ridic price ($15) + adjustable straps that make it so I can nurse in it.Dress, c/o
Alright babes. Back to loving on my babies and working on getting back to feeling like myself again. Also, last observation. I feel like the only thing worse than being pregnant all summer in the humid-hot-as-all-get-out-southern heat (bless all my girlfriends who are due in August!) is having a baby right before the start of summer. Bathing suits have not been a fun one this year! YIKES! Grace, grace, grace. I know!!! (But so much easier said than done!)
If you’re still reading, thanks for being interested in my crazy, weird, hormonal but real stream of consciousness. Love you, thank you, means so much. For real. Please pass this along to your post partum mama friends!
