TODAY IS THE DAY! I love a good deadline–I basically always wait until the last possible minute, but I get it done. That’s just how I’ve always rolled, and that was exactly the case with this nursery. As of this past Friday night at 36.5 weeks pregnant, the room still wasn’t painted, and almost every single new purchase was still in its original box in a pile in our living room.
Fortunately my hubby and I make quite the team, so we knocked this transformation out by Tuesday! Of course I couldn’t have pulled it off without the help of my interior designer mama and always-help-a-sista-out sister too. It takes a village, y’all, and family is just everything. This nursery was another labor of love, a family affair, and on Tuesday afternoon when Hope, Mom, and I sat back and admired the fruits of our labor, we couldn’t help but say…okay, Sterling. You can come now. I’m sure we’ll be waiting 3 more weeks. But us girls can dream, right?!
Okay, on to the good stuff…THE PICTURES!
(Psst…you can check out the befores here.)
Welcome to this subtly English-themed, neutral nursery fit for our little boy, Sterling.
Jesus Loves Me Sign, c/o
**USE CODE ORC15 at checkout for 15% off your order**
I dreamed this sign into existence when I was rocking Nancy one night and singing to her. This classic song is just the sweetest, and I thought to myself, “it would be so sweet to have these lyrics big and bold in a nursery.” I scoured the Internet for a purchase and found nothing except a few small printable signs. Aaaand then I found my friends at Sophistiqa, a hubby and wife duo who gave life to my little idea. I mean, I’m obsessed. It’s exactly how I wanted and imagined it to be! And now you can have one too!!! It’s listed in their shop and you can even customize the frame and lettering colors. I think it would be a sweet addition to a playroom or as a gift to any Believing mama!
Because I love neutrals, I have to (and love to) add some interest in through texture. I loved bringing in a variety of textures through this natural fiber rug contrasted with the super soft and cozy (and machine washable!) Union Jack rug. And don’t even get me started on the added texture that my new blinds from The Shade Store bring! Then add the soft, heathered look of the H initial block blanket as well as the sleek feel of the blackout buffalo check curtains…you’ve got it. More texture, texture, texture!
Curtains + All Bedding, c/o
I can’t handle my love for this buffalo check. You might remember from my master bath reno reveal earlier this week that I have a thing for gray and white. I let that obsession continue in the nursery in the form of this pattern, and I’m so glad I did even though my pattern-mixing-loving heart worried about it being too matchy-matchy. It’s not. It’s perfect!
Sconces, c/o | Pillow, c/o | Blanket, c/o | Side Tables, c/o | Headboard | Quilt
I am so in love with these sconces! They free up side table space and will be the perfect reading lights for my in-laws when they travel from across the pond to spend most of June here with us (and our newest addition–baby Sterling)!
Rocker, c/o | Dresser (similar) | Union Jack Pillow (similar) | Cloud Light | Globe (similar)
Since this room has dual use as a guest room, we were limited with space. A crib + a queen size bed meant a big rocker got nixed. My friends at Bellacor hooked me up with this modern little guy. My favorite part is having it next to the super traditional dresser — a contrast I always aim for and love! Mixing modern and traditional is a favorite design habit of mine.
Headboard | Side Table, c/o | Sconce, c/o | Quilt
Love, love, love these side tables — especially paired with the headboard! They’re sleek, simple, and Mark was very happy that they weren’t hard to put together at all either.
Walls: SW Pearly White, c/o | Doors: SW Anonymous | Ceiling: SW Lullaby, c/o
Let’s talk paint colors. The walls are SW Pearly White. It’s SUCH a pretty white that’s not stark, computer paper white (see the contrast to the white trim around the doors?). But–as you can see in the other photos–it’s still bright and white! If anything it has the slightest hint of gray in it. It’s not creamy/tan/bleh. It’s my perfect white. The proof is in the pudding because this nursery is the 4th (!!) place in our home to see this color on its walls. I just can’t stop my love for Pearly White! We didn’t have to paint the doors because all of our interior doors are already SW Anonymous. Best for last: my hubby made my nursery ceiling dreams come true when he painted it SW Lullaby. EEEE! Still squealing over it.
Bamboo Side Table | Mobile (bought secondhand, here’s the new version) | Crib | Dock A Tot, c/o
Gotta love that weird little nook and random half closet. (We have 3 of those tiny half closets scattered throughout our home!) My favorite part? Those sweet crown paintings were once in my little brother’s nursery! That makes them 19 years old. 🙂
Still a work in progress: got this map last minute. Need to get it framed! I’m thinking a dark wood frame similar to the dresser will be a great contrast against the white wall. Cannot wait! Oh, and see our master bedroom peeking from across the hall? It’s the one year anniversary of that ORC reveal!
I MEAN! I just can’t wait to put him in this outfit.
My lovely mama tied on the bumper in French knots because she is amazing and said that’s much better than bows for a boy. I agree. She also saved the day because I could not for the life of me remember where I put the crib skirt. Clueless. And when I immediately confessed my blunder to her she replied, “Did you look under the [crib] mattress?” and there it was. Sigh. Way to go, mom. I must be your daughter. You definitely know exactly how my brain works. 😉
Crib | All Bedding, c/o
All the buffalo check heart eyes!! Carousel Designs is my favorite because of their customization options that really let you visualize the product (even when it’s completely custom!) before buying it. They’re just the best!
Star Ceiling Decals, c/o
Okay, lets talk about the stars on the ceiling! They’re decals, so they are super easy to put on and remove (even at this glorious stage of pregnancy). I opted for the silver and love the subtle metallic shine it brings to the nursery. My favorite part though? Nancy frequently walks in, looks up, and starts singing “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” as she points to and admires the ceiling. It’s the sweetest thing!!! I hope it doesn’t end anytime soon because this mama sure is loving that daily reaction.
Ceiling Fixture, c/o
My mama picked out this ceiling fixture from Lamps Plus, and I could not love it more! I love the dark contrast with the white walls and light ceiling. More than that…I love that it echoes the Union Jack in its design.
That “&” print came in the frame, and I cannot wait to replace it with a family picture of the FOUR of us!!!! And can we talk about this London Book of Opposites?! One of my sweet girlfriends surprised us with it, and I just think it is the cutest and most thoughtful little find ever!! I want to keep it set out in Sterling’s room forever.
Woven Wood Shades in Fair Harbor-1, c/o
I cannot get over how much texture and warmth these custom shades bring into the room. They’re a hugely impactful upgrade from standard blinds! Learn more about my experience choosing them here. (Update: read more about the before/after impact here.)
The sweetest little view. The mirror is also a treasure from my little brother’s nursery once upon a time. I love a good family hand-me-down!
Well, what do you think?! I’m not 100% finished. I’ll be sharing a few more details in the coming weeks…
You’ve got to hear the low down on the Union Jack Rug, more about The Shade Store blinds, and the crown jewel that’s on it’s way to my house right now: my artist bffie’s painting that will be hung above the bed! Stay tuned. The fun isn’t over yet! (YAY!) Oh, and I have to clean out that dresser and the closets. Right now all the baby clothes are still in plastic storage bins. That’ll be this weekend’s project: MAKE ROOM FOR BABY CLOTHES. Truth. Real life. The pictures are pretty, but you can’t see the closets and drawers full of all the non-baby things. Remember that. 😉
